All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.

Mark Twain

I was reading the most recent Ethics in Orthodontics article in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and had an ethical delusion. I imagined that our specialty adopted a patient-centered set of clinical radiographic guidelines. We could have a meeting about planning a meeting about planning a committee which would appoint a subcommittee who would study the issue and then send it back to the first committee. Wait a minute, the AAO Board of Trustees tasked the committee with a study of CBCT in orthodontics, created a taskforce between the AAO and AAOMR, got the report and then didn’t accept it! (See attached lowlights).

Lucky for us, the British Orthodontic Society came up with a comprehensive rationale for taking radiographs in orthodontics. We don’t need no stinkin’ committee……..

Read them. Understand them. Adopt them.
